This coin is from Brazil's "Cruzado Nova" monetary period, which lasted two years only (1989-1990).
On the reverse is a gaucho on his horse, overlooking a herd of cattle. As of 2018, there are approximately 210 million people living in Brazil, and about the same number of cows. Brazil's massive beef industry is second only to the United States.
Thanks to Maria and her eagle eyes for discovering this coin, and then finding and donating it to the Zoo.
