East Africa 50-CENTS (KM30)
Lion
The walking Lion first appeared on the East African coinage in 1906 (when there were 100 cents to a rupee). In 1921, monetary reform saw the rupee replaced with the shilling. The lion appeared on the 50-cent and 1-shilling coins which were .250 silver until 1944. Since this is such a beautiful coin, the Zoo Keeper is presenting an example in silver, and this one in copper-nickel.
