East Africa 1-SHILLING (KM21)

Lion

The walking Lion first appeared on the East African coinage in 1906 (when there were 100 cents to a rupee). In 1921, monetary reform saw the rupee replaced with the shilling. The lion appeared on the 50-cent and this 1-shilling coin until 1944, when it was replaced with a copper-nickel version.
