Peru 1-CENTIMO (KM303.4a)

birds

Peru underwent monetary reform in 1991 and their new small denomination coins (1 centimo to 20 centimos) all feature a pair of highly stylized birds on the reverse. These images are from the ChimĂș culture (c. 950 to c. 1470). Birds were precious resources in the Andean economies and they featured prominently in their art and culture.
