Canada 25-CENTS (KM345)

Owl & Polar Bear

In 1999, Canada issued a special series of quarters (one per month) to celebrate the dawn of the new millennium. The designs were drawn from over 33,000 contest submissions.

The theme of the April coin is 'Our Northern Heritage'. It is adapted from a copper engraving by renowned Inuk artist Kenojuak Ashevak. In Inuit tradition, the owl represents wisdom, and the bear represents power and kindness.
