The Common Pheasant (aka Ring-necked Pheasant) is found in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. It also makes an appearance on the 2013 coin, but in a less dramatic pose than seen here.
I originally thought these were "fantasy" coins, created by Armenia as a political move to help gain recognition for the NKR (which later became the Republic of Artsakh). However, it seems that the Artsakh dram is official legal tender within the republic, although, the people mainly use the Armenian dram.
All coin images in Daniel's Coin Zoo are from my personal collection. I collect, research, and personally photograph every coin displayed on this site. PLEASE do not take my images without permission. If you would like to use any coin image you see, just ask me. Thank you.
