Nagorno-Karabakh 1-DRAM (KM10)

Non-circulating coin

Persian Leopard

The Persian Leopard (Panthera pardus ciscaucasica) is the largest leopard subspecies and is endangered throughout its range.

Although some (including Krause) think this is a cheetah, as far as I can tell there is a distinct lack of cheetahs in this part of the world. Leopards, however, are still found in fragmented areas west of the Caspian Sea, possibly in the area between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

I originally thought these were "fantasy" coins, created by Armenia as a political move to help gain recognition for the NKR (which later became the Republic of Artsakh). However, it seems that the Artsakh dram is official legal tender within the republic, although, the people mainly use the Armenian dram.
