Slovakia 5-KORUNA (KM14)

Horse

This is a meta-coin, kind of. The horse and rider image on the reverse represents an ancient Celtic coin from the first century BCE. Biatec is the name of a person, who we can reasonably assume was a king.

The ancient coins were minted by the Boii (a late-Iron Age Celtic tribe) in the area of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The Latin inscription "BIATEC" is the most common among 14 different inscriptions found on this coin type, and represents the oldest known use of writing in Slovakia and the surrounding areas.
