This coin is from 'The Russian Federation' series, a series of coins that started in 2005 with each celebrating a region of Russia.
This issue is the Novosibirsk Oblast, a region in south-western Siberia and the birthplace of Oleg who sent me this coin (and others) as a gift for the Coin Zoo.
The two animals are sables, a species of marten (Martes zibellina). They are holding a korovai which is a traditional bread of Russia, Poland, and Ukraine, often used at weddings. The two sables with the bread (and salt) is a traditional symbol of Russian hospitality.
All coin images in Daniel's Coin Zoo are from my personal collection. I collect, research, and personally photograph every coin displayed on this site. PLEASE do not take my images without permission. If you would like to use any coin image you see, just ask me. Thank you.
