Lithuania 5-CENTU (KM72)

Horse

The image of Vytis -- the White Knight -- on horseback was first used in 1366 on the seal of the Grand Duke of Lithuania. From there it was handed down through centuries, making its way onto heraldic shields and state emblems.

The first bronze coins from the Republic period (1918-1940) included 5-centai, 10-centu, 20-centu, and 50-centu pieces, all minted in 1925 only. All feature Vytis and his horse in the typical pose: Vytis with sword overhead, leaning forward on a charging horse with its tail down.
