Pegasus is the winged white stallion of Greek Mythology. He is the son of Poseidon (God of the sea, earthquakes, and horses) and Medusa (once beautiful but turned to a monster for making out with Poseidon in Athena's temple). You can read a brief story on the legend here.
This beautiful realization of Pegasus was created by artist Giuseppe Romagnoli and engraver Pietro Giampaoli. The coin was issued from 1946 to 1950.
