In 2017, São Tomé and Príncipe underwent monetary reform, introducing the "Second Dobra" and a new set of circulating coins that all feature birds.
The smallest denomination features a Kingfisher, and is likely the São Tomé Kingfisher which is endemic to the island (not found elsewhere). It is a sub-species of the Malachite kingfisher, one of four species of kingfisher found on the islands.
All coin images in Daniel's Coin Zoo are from my personal collection. I collect, research, and personally photograph every coin displayed on this site. PLEASE do not take my images without permission. If you would like to use any coin image you see, just ask me. Thank you.
