In 1944 Paraguay introduced a reform coinage, replacing the peso with the guarani (100 centimos = 1 guarani).
Above the lion are the words 'paz y justicia' which translates as 'peace and justice'. Above the lion, on a pole, is a liberty cap.
This scalloped coin was issued one year only.
