The Komodo dragon is the world's largest lizard, growing 2-3 meters in length, and weighing around 70 kg. There are only about 6,000 living Komodo Dragons, and all are found in the Lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia. Komodos are carnivorous predators, hunting by stealth, and sudden bursts of speed up to 20 km/h. Even if their prey escapes, the Komodo's bite is deadly due to some 50 species of bacteria that reside in the serrations of their teeth. A bitten animal will usually be dead within one week, at which time the Komodo will find the body and devour it.
