Vanuatu 1-VATU (KM3)

Giant Triton

The Giant triton aka Triton's Trumpet (Charonia tritonis) is a very large sea snail found throughout the Indo-Pacific oceans. The shell is prized as a decorative item and can be used as a trumpet. It is also called a "conch" (say "konk") which includes many different medium to large sea snails whose shells have distinctive points at both ends.

The vatu is the unit of currency adopted by Vanuatu in 1981, one year after independence. There are no subdivisions in the currency, and due to inflation the Reserve Bank of Vanuatu ceased to issue 1- and 2-vatu coins in 2011. All prices are rounded to the nearest five.
