In 2010, the US Mint launched the "America the Beautiful" quarters program. Five quarters will be issued each year through 2020 (and one in 2021), for a total of 56 different designs. Each quarter will depict a national park or site from each of the 50 states, the federal district, and each territory).
Iowa's coin features Effigy Mounds National Monument. Dating back to between the early 7th and mid 13th century, the meaning/purpose of the mounds is mostly lost in time. Twenty different present-day Native American tribes are culturally associated with the Effigy Mound builders of the past.
