USA 1-DOLLAR (KM528)

Horse

The original Sacagawea dollar (KM310) was minted from 2000 to 2008. In 2009, the US Mint started an annual Sacagawea series -- the Native American Dollar Program -- with different reverse designs. The first three years saw tens of millions minted each year, peaking at over 80 million in 2010. In 2012, the circulating mintage dropped drastically to less than 6 million.

The 2012 coin was the fourth in the series and commemorates "trade routes of the 17th century." Not sure what that means, exactly, but it is a very attractive design.

Thanks to Marilynn for gifting this coin!
