Canada issued special coins in 1967 to mark 100 years of confederation. All the reverse designs were created by Canadian wildlife artist Alex Colville.
For the five cent coin, Mr. Colville says
The rabbit (varying hare) is common, much loved by children, perhaps because of its vulnerability. It survives by alertness and speed, and is symbolically connected to the ideas of fertility, new life and promise -- it is a future, or united, animal.
All coin images in Daniel's Coin Zoo are from my personal collection. I collect, research, and personally photograph every coin displayed on this site. PLEASE do not take my images without permission. If you would like to use any coin image you see, just ask me. Thank you.
