For Canada's 150th anniversary, the Mint issued a new set of five circulating coins collectively called "My Canada, My Inspiration." The designs were all submitted by Canadians, and voted on before the final selection was made by the Mint. Three of the winning coin designs feature animals, so yay.
The 10-cent coin is called "Wings of Peace" and was designed by Amy Choi of Calgary, Alberta. At first I missed this one as an animal coin, but lo! There it was, a dove of peace, clutching a maple leaf in its beak.
This is only the second time an animal has appeared on the 10 cent denomination. The first was 50 years ago for Canada's 100th anniversary.
