Canada 1-DOLLAR (KM2089)

Common Loon

Lucky Loonie

In 2016, the Royal Canadian Mint issued the fifth version of the "Lucky Loonie" coin. In this version, we see the return of the landing loon, who first showed her lake landing skills on the 2008 coin. This is also the first time the words "LUCKY LOONIE" have appeared on the coin.

The first lucky loonie was minted in 2004 (KM513), followed by a 2006 issue (KM630) and another in 2008 (KM787). After a break with no coin in 2010, the fourth lucky loonie was minted in 2012 and 2014 (KM1256).
