Horse + Basilisk

This coin is from 'The Russian Federation' series, a series of coins that started in 2005 with each celebrating a region of Russia.

This is the sixth issue, celebrating Moscow. It shows the coat of arms of Moscow with a man on horseback slaying a basilisk (identified with St. George slaying the dragon). Ivan III (1140-1505) started using the triumphant horseman in 1479 on his state seal.
