Phoenix

The "Phoenix" was the original monetary unit of Greece after it achieved independence from the Ottoman empire in 1828. It was replaced by the Drachma in 1832. The image of the phoenix started to appear on the modern coinage, including several examples during the Third Modern Drachma era (1954-2001).

This coin was issued in 1973 only.
