Greece 1-EURO (KM214)

The Athenian owl first appeared on the silver Tetradrachm around 430 BCE, which was minted for over 300 years. Some Greek mythologists have suggested that the owl is actually the goddess Athena (who appeared on the other side of the first owl coins). Athena could shape-shift, and apparently Athena and the owl don't appear together in Greek art.

Greece switched to the euro in 2002. The centre of this coin is actually an image of an original silver Tetradrachm, which were roughly struck and not very round with uneven edges.

This is the second version of the coin, with a different map on the reverse. The owl obverse seems to be identical, but I put it in the zoo anyway, because owls.
