Burma 50-PYAS (KM36)

Chinthe

The Chinthe (incorrectly referred to as the 'Chinze' by Krause) is all over Burma (now Myanmar), especially as the undefeatable guardians of Buddhist temples.

Before 1954, there were 4 pyas to a pe, 2 pe to a mu, 2 mu to a mat, and 5 mat to a kyat. Now there are 100 pyas to a kyat.

I believe this coin is dated 1954.
