Back around the turn of the century, Turkey had a serious problem with hyper-inflation. This small coin was worth half-a-million lira, which apparently wasn't much in 2002.
Eventually, there would be coins with values up to ten million lira. Monetary reform came in 2005 with one new lira replacing 100,000 old lira.
It must have been a tough time. Three years after this coin was minted, the sheep on it jumped off a cliff with over 400 of its herd-mates. Actually, that's not funny... 2,000 sheep went off the cliff, and the first 450 died but the remainder landed on the pile of bodies and were saved. [SOURCE]
