The Amazonian Manatee -- aka the Sea Cow -- is a big aquatic mammal that can weigh over 900 kg. They are the only aquatic mammals that are vegetarians, and typically eat 40-50 kg a day. That's a lot of sea salad. Manatees are warm-blooded and unfortunately have taken to hanging out in power plant discharges to keep warm when they should be migrating. Some power plants are being shut down, and the manatees are finding themselves in serious trouble.
'Peixe boi' is Portuguese for 'manatee'.
