The Irish 'Barnyard Series' of coins features animals that were very important to Ireland's mainly agricultural economy.
The florin features a salmon. The fishery played an important part in Ireland's early agricultural economy. This piece is from the original coinage of the Irish Free State and was minted from 1928 to 1937. The salmon design was continued with a modified obverse in 1939 (KM15), followed by a copper-nickel version (KM15a) from 1951 to 1968.
