Iceland 100-KRONUR (KM35)

Lumpsucker

The Lumpsucker is described as "thick, ungainly, almost ball-shaped." They have been fished in Iceland for centuries, but the males and females serve different purposes: The males are mostly consumed locally where they are traditionally boiled in water and vinegar and served with potatoes and a piece of lumpsucker liver. (Yum.) The females are mostly fished for their roe, which is exported as luxury caviar, mostly to Sweden.

The obverse of this coin features the mythological four Guardian Spirits of Iceland.
