Danzig issued some very interesting coins between 1923 and 1935, and after years of patient fishing, I finally landed this 5-pfennig piece to go with the larger 10-pfennig coin.
The turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) is a flatfish, meaning, it has both eyes on one side of its body -- in this case the left side. It is a highly prized food fish that can grow up to 100 cm long and 25 kg in weight.
All coin images in Daniel's Coin Zoo are from my personal collection. I collect, research, and personally photograph every coin displayed on this site. PLEASE do not take my images without permission. If you would like to use any coin image you see, just ask me. Thank you.
