Atlantic Bluefin Tuna
The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna is a large fish weighing up to 500 kg. Industrial fishing of the Bluefin has reporting been going on in Croatia and area for 1,000 years. Although the Bluefin Tuna accounts for only 3% of total fish catch in the Mediterranean, their economic importance is very high. In Japan, a single Bluefin has sold for as high as US$100,000! Demand from the United States is also high, running to 24,000 tonnes annually.
