Comoros 20-FRANCS (KM8)

The coelacanth (pronounced SEE-la-canth) is the oldest species of fish known. It was thought to have been extinct since the end of the Cretaceous period, about 65 million years ago, but one turned up in 1938. They are now known to exist in a few areas around Africa, including Comoros. The coelacanth is an endangered species.

Comoros issued a series of five coins in 1964, with the 10- and 20-franc pieces featuring the coelacanth. They were only minted once.
