Bhutan 25-CHHERTUM (KM47a)

Golden fishes

The two Golden Fishes on the obverse of this coin are one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism. The two-fish symbol predates Buddhism as an ancient symbol of the two sacred rivers of India, Ganga and Yamuna. In Buddhism they represent happiness, fertility, and abundance.

This coin was minted in 1979 only, and replaced KM47 (minted the same year) which is the exact same coin but minted in copper-nickel.
