United Kingdom 1-POUND (KM1005)

Welsh Dragon

The Welsh Dragon appears on the national flag of Wales, and its oldest recorded use as a symbol of Wales dates to the early ninth century.

The Red Dragon first appeared on the one pound coin in 1995 (KM969), and this version with an updated portrait of the Queen was issued in 2000 only.

The coin is quite thick at 3 mm and this beautiful example is a proof version.

Thank you to Iain from England for gifting this upgraded version to the Coin Zoo! (My original coin looked like it had been used for target practice.)
