The pair of lions pulling the Roman goddess Cibeles (aka Cybele) seated on a chariot is an image of the Cibeles Fountain located in the Plaza de Cibeles in Madrid.

This coin was issued in 1991 to commemorate the selection of Madrid as the "European Capital of Culture" for 1992.
