Barn swallows (Hirundo rustica) are found on every continent except Antarctica. It is estimated there are close to 200 million individuals, covering a range of over 50 million square kilometers. Barn swallows have long been tolerated by humans when they nest in buildings due to their natural beauty and mostly because they eat flying insects.
