Poland 2-ZLOTE (Y578)

Grey Seal

This circulating commemorative coin is from Poland's World Animals Series and features a Grey seal poking its head out of the water for a look around.

The Grey seal is found on both sides of the North Atlantic and is also called a Gray seal (U.S.), Atlantic seal, and the Horsehead seal. But its best name is the proper Latin name Halichoerus grypus, because it literally means "hook-nosed sea pig." It is a very large seal, with males reaching weights up to 300+ kg.

This coin was issued one year only.
