The legend on this coin indicates that it pictures Aequitas, the ancient Roman personification of fair dealing, and equity. However, it is the ancient goddess Cybele who usually sits in a chariot drawn by lions, as seems to be the case on the coin. The worship of Cybele officially got under way in Rome in 203 BCE.
