Atlantic Herring

The Atlantic Herring is the most abundant species of fish in the world, and the Herring fishery was of great economic importance to the Isle of Man. When John Feltham toured the island in 1797-8, he referred to Herring as the staple commodity of the island.

The original herring half-penny (KM32) was minted in 1976, 1978, and 1979. This FAO version was minted in 1977 only.
