Isle of Man 10-PENCE (KM146)

Manx Loaghtan

The Manx Loaghtan is a rare breed of sheep native to the Isle of Man. They have dark-brown wool and four horns (and sometimes six horns). They are prized both for their wool, and their meat.

The original "dancing loaghtan" coin (KM115) was minted in 1984 only, and this version with an updated obverse bust was minted from 1985-1987. The 1985 issue features a privy mark commemorating the first-ever Island Games, an event first held on the Isle of Man that year. The privy mark is the event logo, which is a stylized triskelion.

Thanks to Maria for sending me this coin. Before receiving it, I was unaware of the existense of this privy marked version.
