This interesting 7-sided coin was minted from 1990 to 1997 (and 1998 to 2003 as KM778 with a different obverse). Each side is equilaterally curved, meaning the radius of the curve is centred on the opposite point. The result is a coin that can roll relatively smoothly on its edge, despite being 7-sided.
The five dolphins circling within this heptagon are beautifully designed and engraved.
Lots of dolphins enjoy the Mediterranean waters of Gibraltar, and dolphin safaris are a popular tourist attraction there.
