Polar Bear
This circulating commemorative coin was issued in 2007 to celebrate Denmark's participation in the International Polar Year which took place from 2007 to 2009. The IPY is a collaborative, international effort to research the polar regions.
Twelve nations took part, and after seven years of planning they mounted a dozen expeditions to the Arctic and three to the Antarctic.
