Eurasian Brown Bear
The Brown Bear is one of the largest carnivores on land, and is extremely powerful. The fellow on this coin is the Eurasian Brown Bear (Ursus arctos arctos), one of several sub-species of Ursus arctos that includes the Grizzly (Ursus horribilis) and the Kodiak (Ursus middlendorffi). It is known by many names, including European Brown Bear, European Bear, and many colloquial names.
The Brown Bear is extremely powerful with remarkable endurance and has permanently unsheathed claws that can be up to 15 cm long.
