USA 25-CENTS (KM519)

Puerto Rican Amazon / Common Coquí

In 2010, the US Mint launched the "America the Beautiful" quarters program. Five quarters will be issued each year through 2020 (and one in 2021), for a total of 56 different designs. Each quarter will depict a national park or site from each of the 50 states, the federal district, and each territory).

Puerto Rico's coin honouring El Yunque National Forest features two beasts: the Common Coquí tree frog, and a Puerto Rican Amazon parrot. Unfortunately, the parrot is critically endangered.
