Peru 1-SOL (2019)

Peru switched from the Sol to the Inti in 1985, then in another round of monetary reform they switched to the Nuevo Sol in 1991. In 2015 the "Nuevo" was dropped, and the currency was once again the Sol.

This circulating commemorative coin is from the "Endangered Fauna of Peru" series and features a Titicaca water frog. This is an entirely aquatic frog that can have a body length up to 20 cm with legs twice that size. They are critically endangered, with an estimated decline of over 80% in just three frog generations (1990-2004). Their decline is due to pollution, introduced trout, disease, but mostly due to being eaten by people.
