Mythical Bird (Rooster)

Information on this coin is hard to come by. Mostly, it gets called a rooster or according to Krause a "stylized chicken." However, the Bank of Kazakhstan refers to it as a "mythical bird" when it first appears on the 1993 10-tenge coin.

The Kazakh National Bank describes it this way:

"Bird" is the common mankind symbol of sky and sun. Cock, which is often used in decoration of Pazaryk harness from Europe to China, from the great antiquity guards people against evil spirits, misfortune and chaos. By determination of scientist L.Y. Shtenberg it is "prophet of daybreak".
