In 2008, Japan started the "47 Prefectures" coin program, which will be completed in 2016. The program includes silver collector coins, plus circulating bi-metallic coins.
The 2016 Fukushima Prefecture coin features the heroic horse race of the Soma-Nomaoi Festival, which dates back over 1,000 years.
