Malta 3-MILS (KM6)

Maltese Honey Bee

Malta is home to the Maltese honey bee, a sub-species of bee native to the islands.

This coin was issued from 1972 to 1981 as part of the new Republic of Malta's decimal currency (10 mils = 1 cent and 100 cents = 1 pound). In 1982, the honey bee obverse was repeated on KM55 with a modified reverse design. 1982 is also the year Malta switched to new coinage, with 100 cents = 1 Lira.
