The Honey bee appeared on some of the very first coins ever issued in the late 7th century BCE. While there may well be over 300 types of ancient Greek coins alone with insects and arachnids, there are very few insect coins issued in modern times. In fact, after 1901, there are only about 12 instances of bees on coins that I know of, and two of them belong to Italy.
All coin images in Daniel's Coin Zoo are from my personal collection. I collect, research, and personally photograph every coin displayed on this site. PLEASE do not take my images without permission. If you would like to use any coin image you see, just ask me. Thank you.
