St. Helena & Ascension 2-PENCE (KM2)

Donkey

Donkeys may have first come to St. Helena in 1901, when 119 of them arrived as beasts of burden. They continued to arrive and were the main method of transportation -- for both loads and people -- right into the 1970s.

After that the donkey population began to decline. Ten years after this coin was minted there were 415 donkeys and by August 2015 the donkey population had fallen to just 37. [SOURCE]

This coin was minted in 1984 only.
