Malawi 5-TAMBALA (KM32)

Purple Heron

The Purple heron on this coin first appeared in 1971 (KM9) when the country switched to decimal coinage. I am including this second example after the Malawi Congress Party lost power in the first free elections since the country was founded. The reverse is pretty much the same, less the designer's initials, and the obverse has been changed to the coat of arms.
